Getting Started with Your Own Avon Business

If you are wondering how to make ends make in this economy, or you would rather work for yourself rather than someone else, then Avon could be the answer to your questions! What's that you say? You don't think you can sell? Of course you can! Just to be sure, here's a little test to see if Avon might be right for you:

  1. Do you like to talk with people and/or help others?
  2. Do you like Avon products (if you're not sure, check out a brochure and see if there's anything in there you might enjoy - even if you don't wear make-up)?
If you can answer yes (or even "maybe" or "sortof") to both questions, then you may be ready to learn more about the Avon opportunity! When I first started with Avon, I didn't think I could sell lemonade to a person lost in the desert! But, they had a cute costume that I wanted for my son and I realized I could get it at a discount...and since it is only $10 to sign up, I didn't have much to lose!

There are 3 types of Avon Representatives:
  1. Those who make Avon their full-time job.
  2. Those who make Avon a part-time job.
  3. Those who are only interested in purchasing their own products at a discount.

Now, you probably already knew about #1 and #2, but you may not have realized that #3 was an option! But, that's exactly where I started! I wanted my own products at a discount, but since 10 books for each of my 1st 2 campaigns came with my kit, I decided to put them out at work. I was pleasantly surprised when I got those first few orders! Many people were glad to have an Avon lady in the building! After I attended the first sales meeting (these are not mandatory, but are certainly helpful), I got excited and began to see the real potential in this business! Now, I have made the dream of working from home full-time a reality!

What does all this mean for you? Well, my story is only one of the millions of lives who have been changed for the better by becoming an Avon representative! This is not some get-rich quick scheme, though. It will take work to earn money with this business. But, there are so many people ready to support you and help you succeed! Here are just a few of the benefits of having your own Avon business:

  • Minimal start-up costs
  • NO INVENTORY REQUIRED!!!
  • Set your own hours - YOU decide how much YOU want to work!
  • Complete support and training available for your sales success
  • Sell through fund-raising efforts and parties IF YOU CHOOSE (not required)!
  • Receive your own personalized Web site with an online store to service customers at any time, from anywhere!
  • Name recognition (everyone has heard of Avon, many have fond memories of the Avon Lady visiting their home when they were children) - The company has been around since 1886!
  • Products endorced by popular icons like Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey

President's Club Luncheon

When I signed up with AVON almost a year ago, I never imagined that I would have the honor of attending the President's Club luncheon during my first year! In order to go, you have to achieve President's Club, which is sales of $10,100 or more during Avon's year (appx. April to March)! Since I started half-way through the year (and had the opinion that I couldn't sell), it didn't seem realistic...but as my sales began to increas, so did my confidence and determination to make it! And make it, I did!

Don't get me wrong, it took a lot of hard work, but it was worth everything I put into it! The picture just above is a picture of me with two people who have helped me grow my business to what it is today and encourage me to grow it to what it will become...my Upline Representative, Denise Hatcher, and my District Manager, Ed O'Neill.

The food was absolutely AMAZING! We had chicken with a mushroom beef gravy, shredded veggies, wild rice, and cheesecake for dessert! The presentation was fabulous...so, like the camera junkie that I am, I had to take pictures!

During the luncheon, we not only enjoyed a fabulous lunch, but also had recognitions, saw future product lines, and won door prizes! While it was an honor to just attend...next year, I plan to reach new goals and receive the higher recognition awards!

My friend and upline rep, Denise (pictured above), won the Spirit of Avon award this year...and I can't imagine anyone else who deserved it more! Congrats, Denise!

What do you know? I'm an Avon Lady! :)

I've been selling Avon since September 2007, but this is my first attempt at starting a blog about it! Please be patient with me - I'm not totally sure what direction this blog will take or how to go about it, but I decided to be adventurous, so here I am!

I can remember as a little girl getting Avon lotions and lip balms in my Christmas stocking. I remember the Avon lady coming to visit and sitting down with my mom as she placed an order. I remember looking at the books and making up my own wish list (sometimes I got something from the wish list, sometimes not). But never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would BE the Avon lady!

It's rather funny how it all happened, too. About a year ago, a fellow teacher (Kathy) told me how she was able to stay home with her son when he was little by selling Avon. As much as I wanted to be home with Christopher, there was not even the slightest inkling that told me I would be able to do something like that - in fact, I think my exact words were, "No, I can't sell anything...I'm just not a good sales person. (famous last words)" In my head, I thought, "Check with my mom - she's the sales professional in our family - she could sell ice to an eskimo"...but since Kathy didn't know my mom (and my mom lives in another state), there was no point in saying that out loud!

Well, that was in May 2007...by September, my tune had slightly changed. Ok - to be quite honest, I still didn't think I could sell anything, but Christopher wanted to be Diego for Hallelujah Night (our church's Halloween alternative) and Avon had a really cute one. I actually saw it on ebay - but I could tell the picture was from an Avon catalog - so the bargain hunter in me decided I could get it at a discount if I signed up as a representative. I decided to check it out, see how much it would be to sign up. When I found out it was only $10 to get started, I thought, "Why not - let's give it a try." So, I did...and the rest, as they say, is history!

Well, when I signed up, I was given 10 brochures to get me started...so, I figured, rather than just letting them lay around the house, I might as well put them out and see what happens. I put my name on the back and put them in the mailroom at the school where I was teaching. By the end of th week, I had a few orders. I was shocked! Then I started thinking that maybe, just maybe, I might be able to do this! I put in my first order, made the deliveries, and put out more books. As the school year progressed, my Avon business began to grow. It didn't happen by chance, of course - once I got started and went to meetings, I began to realize that this really was something I could do and would offer me the opportunity to be at home and be my own boss (two things I've always wanted). So, I started reading books, listening to books on tape, and learning everything I could about having my own direct-marketing business (by the way, I'm still learning).

My hubby has been a great help, too! He handles the accounting side of the business (his specialty) as well as creating some personalized forms for me! He saw the possibilities before I did...and he's pushed me along the path to help me get where I am today! And now, I'm a full-time Avon Lady and loving it!

So...if you need some Avon or would like to sell Avon, give me a call! I'd love to hear from you! You can also vsit my Avon website & online store at: www.youravon.com/kjansen. Just click the link and it should take you there! Thanks for taking the time to read this post!
